I came in (20 mins early, as usual) and sat in the collegue canteen waiting for my shift to start. After a couple of minutes a fellow collegue of mine came in. Now I cannot decide whether I like this certian person, as most of the time she gets on my nerves but she does seem to work hard, so I can get over her annoyingness. She told me that it was pretty quiet, nice for a sunday (as sundays are usually horrible due to the excessive amount of customers) but however when we got up to the cafe it was hideous. And it didn't stop until the last half an hour before closing time.
Now one thing I have learnt during my time in the cafe is that you should never let slow, quite immature boys in potwash. Everyone enjoys a laugh or a joke at work but oh my lord I have never seen anyone work so slowly! And even though prompted and poked by me, they still didn't work any faster!
And whilst the boys were in potwash, I was doing running and tables. Thats basically taking food out and then clearing tables. It's what I do for 90% of my shifts. The other 10% I'm either in potwash or on coffee. Or on the rare occasion where I have to go on the till. I hate the till. Dyslexic nightmare. But today I was on tables. It was not fun. At one point, we ran out of spare highchairs, and it took me 10 minutes to clean one of the highchairs cos it was covered in spag bol. Fun times indeed. During the last hour of my shift, the boys in potwash were not going any faster and I had a lot of tables to clear and bring in, so I ended up piling it up outside as my work friend Jade desperately tried to help them bring it down.
In the last half an hour of my shift I was asked to help in potwash as they still had a lot to do. I managed to get it down within five minutes with everyones help. The boys had made a right mess in the sinks but me and Jade quickly cleaned it, leaving them to unplug the massive sink, which had a lot of horrible food stuck in the plughole. By that time I was shattered, and I'd only been on a four hour shift.
On the upside I did get 2 free panini's :D this is a rarity as we are not allowed to take any food home, even if they are out of date and we cannot sell them anymore. All the food is wasted and goes straight in the bin. I would prefer it to go to a homeless shelter or something. Maybe this is something I can campaign against, but I am not sure. I work for a very big corporate company whose rules are very strict, and strange.
I have learnt however that a shower can help anything my job can throw at me.
